Why Should I Integrate Technology in My Teaching?


Learning Outcomes

At the end of this workshop participants will be able to:

1. Appreciate the importance of using technology to facilitate teaching and learning.

2. Describe how the roles of the teachers and students will change when they incorporate technology into teaching.

3. Describe the learning context in which they will incorporate technology.

a. Justify how their specific learning contexts will determine how they integrate technology in their subject area.

GROUP WORK
In groups participants will examine two case scenarios. The following questions will guide their exploration of the issues:

1. In which case do you think technology is most effectively integrated into teaching and learning?

• Justify your answer with examples from the case.

2. What are the roles of the teacher in case 1 versus case 2?
3. What are the roles of the students in cases 1 versus case 2?
4. How will your role change when technology is used?
5. How will your students’ roles change?

Activity 5: Collaboration & communication tools

• Participants will access their blog site at: http://carronhall.wordpress.com/
• Participants will write an introduction of themselves and use their first names to create an acronym.
